Eateries in the state to be classified based on the quality of food served and cleanliness. Eateries will also be given star rating by the food safety department, said health minister Veena George. Speaking to reporters in Pathanamthitta on Tuesday, George said that details of eateries, their classification and star rating will be uploaded on the website of the food safety department.

Travellers, tourists and the public can check the website to find the eatery most suited for them. Classifications are being made as part of the stringent action being taken against those hotels serving stale and unclean food. George also said that those eateries serving quality food will be encouraged.

An annual calendar indicating activities that need to be taken up by the department will be formed. A team of three officials will be formed at the commissionerate level,and flash raids will be conducted across the state and checkposts, she said.
